Privacy policy for GIF Editor

Open the clip you have, then this gif editor lets you crop gif edges, trim gif frames and add a caption, then export the copy.

Files and editing data

Choosing, dropping or pasting a GIF gives the extension access to that selected file. The workspace reads its bytes, dimensions, frame timing and file name to prepare previews and exports. Caption text, crop coordinates, frame selections and other edits are held in the workspace session. Export creates a GIF or ZIP download; the browser and your download settings determine where the file is saved.

Opening another file, reloading or closing the workspace ends that editing session. Saved exports remain until you delete them. Batch export reads the files selected together and reports the result for each file.

Extension storage

The extension uses Chrome's storage.local API for the gifEditorRatePrompt record. It contains display timestamps and, when applicable, a dismissal timestamp or the selected destination type, feedback or reviews. This record controls whether the rating prompt is shown.

After two successful exports in a workspace session, the rating prompt may appear when the stored record contains no earlier display. A previous display, dismissal or answer suppresses it while that record remains available. Clearing extension storage or removing the extension deletes the record.

Installation measurement

We count installations, and that is the only measurement in this extension. The welcome page shown once after installing loads a single 1x1 image from our analytics counter. The request identifies this product's welcome page so the counts can be told apart, and it carries connection information such as your IP address, the request time and browser-supplied HTTP metadata, the way any image request does. The analytics service sets its own cookie for its own domain. The request runs no script and carries nothing from your editing session; the welcome page is the only page of this extension that contacts anyone.

The image request is made when the welcome page loads, including when you open that page again. Closing the page after loading does not retract the request. The analytics service processes the request under its own service settings; its retention is separate from Chrome's extension storage.

Feedback, ratings and other pages

The toolbar action opens or focuses the editing workspace. Installation opens the welcome page. The Feedback control opens this product's rate page, on this site, so you can tell us what went wrong. When you remove the extension, Chrome may open a short goodbye page on this site; answering it is entirely optional. Both pages are part of this product's own website, the same site this policy is on.

The rating prompt offers five stars. Nothing opens until you click one. Selecting one, two or three opens the rate page in a new tab; its address carries the number of stars you clicked and the interface language. Selecting four or five opens the extension's Chrome Web Store reviews page when the store identifier has been configured; until that identifier is available, the prompt reports that the store page is not live.

If you send optional feedback on those pages, we receive the reason you picked, any comment you typed, the extension version, and the interface language. Comments are delivered to us through Telegram so we can read them. Submissions without a comment are stored only as counts. We do not collect your email, your name, an install identifier, or your IP address through those pages, and we do not sell this information.

Retention and data requests

Editing session data, the extension's rating record, downloaded exports and information submitted through the feedback pages have different retention periods. Session data is discarded when that session ends. The rating record remains until extension storage is cleared or the extension is removed. You control deletion of downloaded exports. For feedback submissions or installation measurement data, contact the extension owner through the feedback page below and identify the request without including sensitive file contents.

Applicable data protection rights depend on your location and the processing involved. Requests concerning data held by an external service, such as the analytics service or the store, may also need to be directed to that service.

Software and permissions

The extension package contains the GIF decoder, encoder, ZIP library and caption font used by the editor. Its declared extension permission is storage. The Content Security Policy restricts scripts to the extension package and permits the single analytics image request described above.

Children

GIF Editor is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Limited Use

The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
